Waste Is Only Waste When You Waste It
Grab a used plastic bottle, heaps of used crisp packets and most importantly, a stick. Cut your used plastic waste into little pieces and, using the stick, pack them into the bottle as tightly as possible. And voilà, you have an EcoBrick! Simply drop your brick at a hub near you and it could be used in all sorts of sustainable project from furniture, to playgrounds and even schools!
As many of us are aware, plastics are unsuitable for the ecologies around us. They slowly breakdown into Microplastics which are then absorbed by the plants, fish and animals that we eat. Once microplastics get into our system they can cause a whole host of diseases; from birth defects, hormonal imbalances to cancer. Although it can be incredibly harmful to humans and the environment, plastic is actually an incredibly useful material; it’s durable, long lasting and water resistant. It’s just depends on what we do with it!
Ecobricks are an ingenious way to recycle unrecyclable plastics that would otherwise end up in a landfill, the ocean and eventually our bodies. Join me today on my EcoBrick journey, and who knows, brick by brick, we might just build something extraordinary.
